Teaching Climate Literacy

Stories in Sustainability & Science

Hi friends!

My first week of teacher in-services were a success and I’m one week closer to teaching STEM and sustainability concepts to a school full of K-8 students! It’s been 10 years since I’ve been in a traditional classroom, so keep me in your thoughts, okay?

I know many of you are already back into the school year swing (mine doesn’t begin until after Labor Day) and I hope it’s been a smooth and successful start so far. This week I wanted to dive deeper into some resources I plan to use with my students that I know you’ll LOVE.

Game-Based Learning to Teach Climate Change

Looking for a fun and age-appropriate way to teach students about the complexities of climate change? You need to check out the Earth Matters board game! Created by an educator for traditional and non-traditional educators, this board game engages learners’ minds in science and sustainability concepts to understand the nuances contributing to our changing climate.

9 Clean Energy Picture Books

My school had solar panels installed over the entirety of its roof over the summer, which means my students and I will be diving into how solar energy is harnessed and turned into electricity. Picture books are a fabulous way to teach younger students about clean energy and I thought you might like to see some of my favorites.

Wising you all a fabulous final week of August!

Sustainably yours,

~Jess
